The Texas Rangers acquired infielder Andy Parrino on a waiver claim from the Oakland Athletics today, and made room on the 40-man roster by placing left-hander Derek Holland on the 60-day disabled list.
Parrino, 28, played in 14 games for the A’s last season and also had a major-league stint with the Padres in 2011-12. He is a switch-hitter who has played in the corner outfield spots and every infield position but first base.
Holland continues to rehab in Texas after undergoing microfracture surgery on his left knee in January after a freak accident in which he tripped over his dog and fell down the stairs. Holland is rehabbing well and is expected to report to Rangers’ spring training at some point this month.
The earliest Holland can be activated from the DL is May 29.
