Michael Kirkman and Jason Frasor worked out of jams and Michael Choice had another hit, but the Texas Rangers had to settle for a 2-2 tie against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers had their chances on a day filled with scattered showers that pushed first pitch back 20 minutes at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, but they went 2 for 11 with runners in scoring position with a starting lineup that featured only three regulars.
The Rangers were leading 2-1 with one out and Alex Castellanos on third, but Jose Felix missed the bunt that resulted in an out at home.
The Rangers then gave up the tying run on an error by Jim Adduci in the bottom half of the eighth.
Jurickson Profar and minor leaguer Jared Hoying accounted for the two RBI hits with consecutive doubles in the seventh.
