Ron Washington, Tim Bogar happy to be reunited

The former coach-player tandem is together again as top two Rangers’ coaches.

Tim Bogar views himself as a baseball man, not as a stats man. Sure, he understands the importance of the statistical side of the game but isn’t trying to become a numbers guy in the dugout.

“I don’t want anybody to think I’m this overly smart guy,” Bogar said. “There has to be cohesiveness between baseball and statistics. Players are human, they’re not robots, and you can’t just assume that they’re going to perform exactly the same every day.

“What you try to do is take that [statistical] side of it and their human ability, and you put it together to put them in the best position possible.”

Bogar joined Ron Washington’s coaching staff this off-season to replace Jackie Moore as the team’s bench coach. He has a great relationship with his former coach, Washington, and is looking forward to working with him again.

The only thing missing is how Washington and Bogar will celebrate a win. Washington and Moore developed a trademark hug, and Washington said it’s a work-in-progress between him and Bogar.

“We’re going to shock the world,” Washington said, smiling. “The first win of the season, watch what we do.”
