Area baseball and softball teams took their lumps Thursday in the UIL playoffs, with Southlake Carroll baseball picking up a win against Keller Fossil Ridge, and Godley winning in 4A baseball, but five other squads took losses.
Most best-of-three series continue Friday, while others get back in action Saturday.
Southlake Carroll 9, Keller Fossil Ridge 2: A five-run fourth inning propelled the Dragons to victory. Ryne Ryskoski had three RBIs and Cade Bell two to lead the offense for Carroll, which pounded out 13 hits.
Flower Mound Marcus 11, Arlington Martin 0 (5 innings): The Marauders blanked the Warriors in large part due to a seven-run third inning. Michael Leaumont and Hampton Hall each had three RBIs for Marcus.
Forney 5, Mansfield Legacy 0: Forney jumped on Legacy early and never let the Broncos in the game. Jonathan Childress went the distance for the Jackrabbits, striking out nine in the complete-game shutout.
Amarillo 6, Grapevine 0: Amarillo erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning, including a grand slam from Mason Mays. Pitcher Connor Neuman had a pair of hits for Grapevine while also taking the loss.
Wakeland 4, Cleburne 3: Jared Martin’s walk-off single gave Frisco Wakeland the victory. The Yellow Jackets led 3-2 entering the seventh. Coultane Brown’s two-run triple and a Tristan Wilson double accounted for Cleburne’s runs in the fourth inning.
Godley 10, Greenwood 3: Brett Brown struck out nine and launched a three-run homer as Godley thumped Midland Greenwood.
Plano West 4, Keller 3: A three-run homer by Tatum Boyd in the fifth inning lifted Plano West over the Indians. Keller capitalized on early West errors to build a 3-0 lead after two innings. West cut it to 3-1 in the third before Boyd’s heroics.
Brock 6, Peaster 3: Brock took advantage of a Peaster error with the bases loaded in the first inning to plate three runs, then followed with three more runs in the second.
