Everman and Fort Worth Southwest met in the second week of the season. And the second meeting was much like the first.
The Bulldogs built a cushion in the first half and maintained it as Everman downed the Raiders 52-35 in a Class 4A Division II bi-district game Friday at Pennington Field.
Everman (8-3) will advance to the area round to face Wichita Falls (6-5) at a time and place to be determined.
Southwest (6-5), which lost to Everman 51-39 in the previous meeting, kept pace in the second half behind quarterback Devin Williams, but the Raiders couldn’t slow the Bulldogs’ running game.
Williams finished with 362 yards passing and three touchdown, two in the second half to Isaiah Holmes from 44 yards and Najee Adderly from 88 yards.
Everman piled up 539 yards on the ground. Reggie Kincade carried 17 times for 213 yards and one score, Kierre Crossley had 148 yards and a score, and Chris Stafford added 96 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs opened a 28-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring on each of its possessions.
Stafford took Everman’s first offensive snap 55 yards for a score, followed by a 57-yard scoring run by Crossley, a 1-yard run by Darrien Davis and a 29-yard touchdown pass from Michael Boone to Darrell Parks.
Southwest finally showed life with an eight-play, 94-yard drive, capped by a 67-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Alize Thomas that cut the lead to 28-7 with 7:16 left in the half.
After an 8-yard touchdown run by Stafford, Adderly returned the kickoff 92 yards to the Everman 1. Jameion Williams score and Southwest trailed 35-13 with 4:48 left in the second quarter.
Southwest held Everman on downs on the Bulldogs’ next series and moved from its own 27 to the Everman 10. But on second down Stafford intercepted a pass in the end zone to end the threat.
