Arlington Bowie built a head of playoff steam with a 63-19 blowout win over Weatherford at Kangaroo Stadium on Friday night.
The Volunteers will travel to San Angelo Central for their bi-district matchup in the Class 6A playoffs on Friday.
It took little time for Bowie (7-3, 5-2 in District 4-6A) to put some distance between itself and Weatherford (3-7, 0-7).
After the Volunteers defense forced a punt on the Roos’ first possession, receiver Anthony Hawkins took Bowie’s first offensive play 89 yards to the end zone on a handoff to the left.
It was more of the same on Bowie’s second possession.
Running back Chris Gardner took the first handoff of the possession 60 yards for another score to put the Vols up 14-6. Gardner would later score on an 87-yard punt return.
Gardner put his stamp on the second half as well, scoring on an 18-yard run to open the second half and finishing the night with 124 rushing yards and three total touchdowns on just five touches.
Bowie outgained Weatherford 605 yards to 330 and recorded five sacks on Weatherford quarterbacks Bryce Burks and Trey Ware, who split duties behind center. Volunteer defensive end Antoine Roshel had two sacks in the first half.
Weatherford receiver Hayden Rowell caught two touchdowns for the Roos.
