Austin Westlake coach Darren Allman was hired Monday night as the head football coach and campus athletic coordinator at Colleyville Heritage High School.
Allman, who expects to begin Wednesday, was the lone finalist considered by the Grapevine Colleyville school board Monday. He fills the job vacated in March when Mike Fuller was named head football coach and athletic director at Class 3A Decatur. Fuller was 60-19 in seven seasons at Heritage.
Allman, 44, spent the past five years at Westlake, going 45-21 with the Chaparrals and reaching the Class 5A Division I title game in 2009 and state semifinals in 2012. Before that, he spent four years at Odessa Permian. His overall record is 83-32.
He coached the North All-Star team in the 2007 Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. Prior to becoming a head coach, Allman served as defensive coordinator for Highland Park, Temple and Brownwood.
Colleyville Heritage will compete in seven-team District 7-6A in the fall, with Coppell, Euless Trinity, Hurst L.D. Bell, Southlake Carroll, Haltom and Richland.
“His leadership will be instrumental in transitioning CHHS into the new UIL realignment,” said Phil Blue, the district’s executive director of athletics. “I am confident he will capitalize on the strengths of all our Panther athletic programs to provide an exciting and competitive year for our student-athletes.”
