Southlake Carroll seniors Alexa Wimberly and Alex Schneider put on a performance Friday worthy of a dynamic duo.
Schneider held Arlington Martin scoreless in the circle and Wimberly was 3 for 3 with two RBIs as the Dragons won 4-0 in Game 2 and swept the best-of-three Class 5A bi-district series at Carroll High School.
Carroll (19-12), the fourth-place representative in District 4-5A, advances to play Midland or El Paso Bel Air in an area round matchup.
Schneider (10-10) said mixing up her pitches was the difference in Game 2. She scattered four hits and got some strong defense as well.
“I didn’t really throw anything like I did last night,” she said. “I threw more rise balls tonight because I thought that would be effective.”
Not only did she provide offense at the plate, Wimberly turned a double play to get Schneider out of an early threat in the first inning.
After Carroll got its first run in the second inning off a wild pitch, Wimberly put up two more with a sharp single to left in the third inning.
That scored Christina Hill and Gretchen Morgan to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead.
Schneider retired 12 of the final 15 batters she faced. Martin (25-5) stranded six runners and stranded 16 in the series.
Wimberly was 6 for 7 in the two games with three RBIs and three extra-base hits.
“I’m not doing anything different,” Wimberly said. “When it’s your night or in this case, your series, then it’s your series. I’m seeing the ball well at the plate and each hit I’m getting more confident.”
Martin just couldn’t get the breaks on offense. After scoring three runs in the first four innings of Game 1, Schneider blanked the Warriors over the final 10.
Krista Rude was 2 for 3 for Martin with two singles and finished the series 4 for 6 with a run scored.
