Colleyville Heritage competed a six-run comeback in extra innings for a 7-6 victory over L.D. Bell to take a game advantage over the Blue Raiders in District 6-5A.
Senior Connor Erickson jump-started both the tying and the game-winning rallies for Heritage (13-11, 6-1 6-5A) with a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the seventh and a double in the bottom of the eighth.
In the eighth, Erickson doubled off the wall right center, moving Daniel Siebenberg to third. Two batters later with the bases loaded, designated hitter Chris Scherff hit a ball off the end of the bat for a walk-off infield hit.
Heritage’s seventh-inning rally began with a lead-off, pinch-hit homer by Erickson over the left-field fence, cutting Bell’s lead to 6-3.
Heritage took advantage of a Bell miscue on its next at-bat when Logan Swofford reached on a dropped third strike.
After a double by Scherff, Heritage cleanup hitter Trey Smith roped a two-run triple off the wall in left. Smith scored the tying run on Ryan Ramsey sacrifice flied to left. Smith had just enough time to slide under the tag at the plate.
Bell (17-5, 5-2) jumped out to a 6-1 lead after a four-run top of the fourth and run in the third and a home run to center by catcher Zach Plunkett. Bell scored four runs on only one hit, two errors, three walks and a hit batter.
Heritage created an opportunity in the top of the third, loading the bases with two outs, but starting pitcher Bryce Kidwell got out of the jam on a ground ball for the third out.
Heritage remains tied with Euless Trinity a top the 6-5A standings. Bell slipped a game back.
