Kennedale and Shallowater battled back and forth in the second game of the Class 3A Region I semifinals at United Spirit Arena, with Shallowater ultimately winning 72-54.
Guards Jasmyn Poe and Sadie Mahnesmith and McKinley Bostad led the way for the Wildcats. The three combined for 48 of Kennedale’s 54 points.
“We needed more movement on offense from them,” said Kennedale coach Mindy Youngs. “They’re our offense, we’re very guard strong. Sadie (Mahnesmith), McKinley (Bostad) and JP (Jasmyn Poe), they’re hard to beat. We needed them to get a little more movement but they’re the heart of what we do and they did their best tonight.”
It was the fifth regional semifinal appearance for Kennedale (20-11) in the last five seasons.
Youngs said the message she will deliver to her team is to be relentless in their preparation for next season, in hopes it will deliver the Wildcats to the regional round for their sixth-consecutive season.
Junior forwards Hannah Almstead and Summer Pearson along with senior guard Sharon Harkey provided a three-member boost of their own, combining for 52 of the Fillies’ 72 points.
Shallowater (28-5) will meet Abilene Wylie, who defeated Stephenville 54-36 in the opening game, at 1 p.m. on Saturday for the 3A Region I Championship.
