FIRST SHOT: This just in: The Dallas Cowboys announce the trade of Calvin Hill for a 10-year veteran probation officer and two suspended players to be named later.
-- David H. Brooks, Fort Worth
BUCKSHOT: Hey, pal, we'll make the jokes around here.
SECOND SHOT: I think the Stars will go deep in the playoffs. They'll probably even win it all since the other Metroplex teams are stinking up the place.
But, heck, what do I know?
If not for folks at sports bars wearing NYU, Bucknell or "I Love Chicago" sweatshirts, I wouldn't even know whom to ask a hockey question: Does Houston have a hockey team?
Hockey is an indoor sport... and except for baseball, Texas is an outdoor kind of state.
Only some guy who owns an arena would choose to desecrate Tom Landry by playing football indoors.
Dodgeball, volleyball, flutterball maybe... but not football. It should be called the Aroma League. It's football lite.
So, keep telling us the truth... truth we can handle. I say trade Jerry Jones and Tom Hicks. Get anything... [because] even a dry cow would be better than those two.
-- Bob Duke, Arlington
BUCKSHOT: Sorry, they're going nowhere. Mooooot point.
THIRD SHOT: The Cowboys should draft Arkansas running back Felix Jones (22nd) and Texas wide receiver Limas Sweed (28th), then select the "best-available" cornerback in the second round.
Felix Jones is the perfect complement to the bruising style of Marion Barber. Sweed has Terrell Owens' physical characteristics and straight-line speed to go over the top.
Just my opinion, but I don't think the Cowboys should try to get too cute with the draft. Stay put and let the picks come to them.
-- Steve Curry, Lewisville
BUCKSHOT: The Cowboys got real cute in 2001 (Quincy Carter) and 2004 (Julius Jones).
FOURTH SHOT: Past history has shown that you can get a good NFL running back in the later rounds. Heck, Willie Parker and Selvin Young were undrafted free agents.
Instead of gambling and moving up in the draft, the Cowboys would be smarter trading down for additional picks in the second and third rounds.
-- C.A. Boulte, Sugar Land
BUCKSHOT: (See Third Shot.) The Cowboys traded down in 2001 and 2004.
LAST SHOT: With the 22nd pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Cowboys select... not the best running back on the board.
Note: Feeling he made a great decision in 2004 passing on Steven Jackson in the first round and taking Julius Jones in the second, Jerry hopes history can repeat itself.
-- Tim Spitzmueller, Fort Worth
BUCKSHOT: OK, no more piling on Julius. He's a Seahawk now, which works for him... and us.
