Buckshots: Cowboys, Stars fans express confidence

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FIRST SHOT: It's true that Jerry Jones likes his "face time" on draft day.

But it would cost him too much to move up in the order. His needs are at cornerback, wide receiver and running back. (Other than Darren McFadden, there's no consensus as to the top players at those positions.)

Jerry's best chance of making a splash would be to trade a first-round pick for an established receiver like Chad Johnson (Bengals) or Roy Williams (Lions). I also can see teams wanting to jump up to the 22nd pick, and I'm sure Jerry would accommodate them, just as he did Cleveland last year.

No matter what happens... we'll get to see Jerry presiding over the Cowboys' war room -- twice. That's entertainment.

-- C.A. Boulte, Sugar Land

BUCKSHOT: That's scary.

SECOND SHOT: The Stars will get past the first round... [and] if they get rolling, I think they win the Cup. Brenden Morrow, Brad Richards, Steve Ott and Marty Turco will not allow failure this year.

The only thing that worries me is Dave Tippett. He has yet to outcoach anyone in the postseason.

-- James Price, Dallas

BUCKSHOT: Tippett could never be Ken Hitchcock -- and, for right now, that's a good thing. Hitch is home for the playoffs. P.S. - Maybe the best coaching job is to stay out of the way of this Stars bunch.

THIRD SHOT: The Cowboys should sign Pacman Jones, use one of their No. 1 picks (22nd or 28th) to make a deal for Roy Williams from Detroit, then fill in their other needs with lower picks.

This could then be a Super Bowl favorite draft.

(Signed) a true Cowboys fan for 47 years who never gives up on them.

-- Bill Hammett, Carlsbad, N.M.

BUCKSHOT: Oh, you're the guy. I've heard about you.

FOURTH SHOT: Too quiet on the Cowboys' front? No! Never show all your cards. Let the game come to you. Jerry is no dummy -- despite what some around here think.

-- David Glick, Las Colinas

BUCKSHOT: But enough about those slime-covered, second-guessing media types.

FIFTH SHOT: The only deal that Jerry can make to get his team past one-and-done [in the playoffs] of late is trade teams with New England.

-- John Olthoff, Seagoville

BUCKSHOT: No, no... not Beli-cheat! You wouldn't do that to us, would you?

LAST SHOT: I say give Pacman one more chance to recover his football life. If he blows it, it's his life. I've sinned. How about you, Buck?

Have you ever done something that you wanted another shot at?

-- Jerry Clayton, Sulphur Spring

BUCKSHOT: Sorry, Jerry. I'm running out of roo...
