FIRST SHOT: If the 2009 Texas Rangers were made into a movie, it would probably be called Rollercoaster.
Too many ups and downs, and way too short of a ride.
— Mary Rouse, HurstBUCKSHOT: Good one. This may explain why so many Rangers fans felt the season ended up in "Sick Flags" when the team took a wrong turn in September.
SECOND SHOT: How about
Good Golly,Miss Molly?— David Glick, Las ColinasBUCKSHOT: Who do you think you are, Oliver Stone?
THIRD SHOT: If Terrell Owens and Jessica Simpson hooked up … how many "hey, look at me" sound bites would we hear? My opinion is good riddance to both.
— Michael Donaldson, Artesia, N.M. BUCKSHOT: I get it,
The Last Picture Show. We’ve moved on.FOURTH SHOT: Bad news for Flozell: NFL says one more incident will mean a one-game suspension.
Good news for Flozell: He’s up for the 2009 Conrad Dobler Award.
— John Olthoff, Seagoville.BUCKSHOT: Pipe down, you subject-changer.
FIFTH SHOT: Is there by some miracle of a chance that Bobby Valentine could be back with the Texas Rangers as their manager?
— Junior & Lula Masterson, Fort WorthBUCKSHOT: It’s a long shot, although Nolan Ryan and Bobby V are good pals (Valentine was Ryan’s manager with the Rangers, 1989-92) and Ron Washington is signed only through 2010. But much remains up in the air with the impending sale of the team … so my crystal ball is a bit cloudy.
SIXTH SHOT: Everyone seems to point to injuries to Michael Young and Josh Hamilton for the Rangers’ decline. I’d like to point out a "forgotten" injury which I believe made a significant impact: Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Pudge Rodriguez, but I have reservations about his "game calling" ability. Check the ERA of the pitching staff [before and after Salt’s shoulder injury] and see if I’m wrong.
— Harlan Wood, GrapevineBUCKSHOT: Sorry. Pudge had nothing to do with the Rangers’ late-season pitching slide.
LAST SHOT: I believe the Cowboys will reach the playoffs … [because] Jason Garrett’s play-calling is allowing for balance.
However, where I would like to see improvement is in the distribution of the football more to Nos. 28, 80, 11 and 19. These young guys have a lot of big-play ability and will take a lot of pressure off Tony Romo and Jason Witten.
Also, I don’t know if anyone was paying attention last Monday night but Jon Gruden, in a subtle way, may have been politicking for being the next head coach of the Cowboys.
We all know this is Wade’s last year whether he wins, loses or quits.
— Leroy Williams, U.S. Army retired, Killeen BUCKSHOT: Gruden is the best thing to happen to
Monday Night Football in a very long time. Tell me he doesn’t want to coach again.
