Erick Neal’s senior season has started red-hot and continued as he posted his second career triple-double to lead the UT Arlington men’s basketball team to a 73-49 victory over UT Dallas on Monday night at College Park Center in Arlington.
Neal charted 10 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds while playing the entire 40 minutes. Johnny Hamilton, a 7-foot senior center, finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks as he notched his first career double-double.
UTA (5-1), which has won three consecutive games following last week’s 77-76 loss at No. 25 Alabama, erupted for a 15-0 run in the first half and held the Comets (2-2) to only 19 first-half points. The Mavericks controlled the glass 36-26 and held UT Dallas to 29 percent shooting from the field.
UTA returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it plays host to Rice at College Park Center.

UTA women fall
The UT Arlington women sustained their first loss of the season Monday night in a 71-41 setback to Utah at the Jon M. Hunstman Center in Salt Lake City.
UTA (5-1) trailed 17-4 after the first quarter and shot only 29.2 percent in the first half. Daiane Machado scored 10 points to lead the Mavericks.
