Johnny Hamilton set UT Arlington career highs with 30 points and 15 rebounds as the Mavericks rolled past Western Carolina 89-65 on Friday night in the Barclays Center Classic in New York.
UTA (3-1) will play Niagra at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Senior Kevin Hervey added 10 points and seven rebounds, moving Hervey into ninth place on UTA’s career rebounding list. Guard Erick Neal had nine assists.
UTA ran off 19 consecutive points in a 26-4 closing run that broke open a tight game. The Mavs shot 54 percent from the floor, grabbed a season-high 46 rebounds and held Western Carolina to 19 second-half points.

UTA women 67, Fresno State 54
Senior center Rebekah VanDijk had 19 points and six rebounds to lead the Lady Mavericks past Fresno State in Arlington for their fifth straight win to open the season. Guard Crystal Allen added 15 points and six boards and Lauren McGowen had six points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
UTA travels to Utah on Monday to begin a five-game stretch that includes four road games.
TCU women 68, Arizona 59
Jayde Woods had 12 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals just hours after her eligibility waiver was approved by the NCAA.
Woods’ effort, and double-digit scoring from Toree Thompson (14) and Amy Okonkwo (12), helped the Horned Frogs (4-1) defeat Arizona and secure a title-game spot in the Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Classic in Northridge, Calif.
