At the NFL combine in Indianapolis a couple of months ago, former TCU offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai admitted that even he sometimes messes up the pronunciation of his name.
Last month, the Philadelphia Eagles drafted the man whose name sounds like this -- hal-lah-poo-li-VAH-tee VIE-tie – in the fifth round. Recently, Philly’s Comcast SportsNet decided to have a little fun and see how many Eagles fans about town could correctly pronounce it. Actually the fun was in how many couldn’t come close.
One woman looked at those 20 letters and said she could maybe try it after a drink.
Never miss a local story.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pounder from Haltom City told reporters at the combine that he got his given name from his uncle. Then he offered the names of his two brothers – Kevin and William. Seriously.
You can bet Troy Aikman is already studying up.
