TCU safety Sam Carter, defensive end Devonte Fields and defensive tackle Chucky Hunter are on the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, presented to the nation’s top defensive player.
Hunter is also on the watch list for the Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top interior lineman.
TCU is one of 12 schools with at least three players on the list.
Carter, a preseason all-American, is a two-time all-Big 12 selection and led the Horned Frogs last season with five interceptions. He had 49 tackles, 7 1/2 for loss, along with four sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Fields, who played in only three games last year before a season-ending injury, was the 2012 Associated Press Big 12 defensive player of the year. Hunter, a two-time All-Big 12 selection, led the TCU defensive line last season with 43 tackles, including six for loss with two sacks.
TCU returns nine defensive starters, not including Fields.
