Chris Beard has been rewarded for turning around the Texas Tech men's basketball program.
Beard and Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt agreed on a new six-year contract worth $19,050,000, according to a press release from the school. This locks Beard in with the Red Raiders through the 2023-24 season.
“Coach Beard continues to elevate Texas Tech basketball to a record level of success,” Hocutt said in the statement. “Under his leadership, our program is going to continue to elevate to an elite level. I am extremely proud of the direction of his program and know that Red Raider Nation joins me in our level of excitement for the future.”
The Red Raiders recently completed a 23-8 regular season, the highest regular season win total for the program since the 1995-96 season. Texas Tech also earned the program’s highest Big 12 regular season finish and the No. 2 seed at this week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships.
