Two big innings lifted UC Irvine past TCU 15-2 Sunday in a nonconference baseball game at Lupton Stadium as the No. 3 Horned Frogs failed to complete the three-game sweep.
UC Irvine (7-4) scored seven runs in the fourth inning, five of which were unearned after a costly TCU error, to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Three walks also helped lead to the outburst.
The Anteaters tacked on six more runs in the sixth to go up 13-0.
TCU (7-3) scored two runs in the ninth to avoid the shutout. Pinch-hitter Coby Boulware walked and scored on a double from Josh Watson. A.J. Balta later drove in Watson on a sacrifice fly.
Russell Smith started on the mound for the Frogs and gave up six runs (four earned) on five hits in 3 2/3 innings.
The TCU bullpen’s scoreless streak was snapped at 22 1/3 innings.
The Horned Frogs will conclude an eight-game homestand Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they take on UT Rio Grande Valley.
Wright State 7, UT Arlington 2

UTA starter Trae Patterson recovered some after the rocky first and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out two.
RJ Williams provided the lone offensive spark for UTA (4-5), connecting on his first home run of the year and the fourth of his career.
Wright State (5-6) took two of three in the weekend series.
