Senior right-hander Preston Morrison was dominating and No. 4-ranked TCU backed him with a six-run eighth inning on the way to a 9-0 victory Saturday afternoon over Kansas State.
Morrison (7-1) allowed only four hits in his second shutout of the season, and the Horned Frogs (26-7, 7-4 Big 12) evened the three-game series after a 14-4 loss Friday.
Kansas State (3-8, 15-18) managed only six base runners Saturday, three of which came in the ninth. Morrison retired the side in five of the nine innings. He walked two and struck out six.
TCU built a 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two in the sixth before breaking the game open in the eighth.
Elliott Barzilli delivered an RBI single to center to drive in the first run of the eighth. Derek Odell collected his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly. Cody Jones scored on a wild pitch before Nolan Brown doubled to left to score two runs. Dane Steinhagen capped the rally with an RBI single to right.
Never miss a local story.
Alex Young will pitch for TCU in the final game of the series at noon Sunday.
