L.D. Bell star Lexi Gordon commits to women’s powerhouse UConn
Hurst L.D. Bell junior forward Lexi Gordon announced Friday on Twitter that she committed to play basketball at women’s powerhouse Connecticut.
Gordon, the school’s all-time leading scorer, is averaging 24.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game for the Blue Raiders.

Men’s golf: Sarosh Adi is in first place and Chelso Barrett is tied for second, helping TCU finish second after the opening round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
TCU shot even par on the opening day and trail first-place Kansas by three strokes.The Frogs shot a team score of 288.
Adi leads all scorers with a 67. Barrett is tied for second with a 68.
TCU had seven-under par performance on par 5s.
Equestrian: No. 6 TCU claimed two MOP honors, but dropped a 12-8 decision to No. 5 Oklahoma State in Springtown.
The Frogs, now 4-6 on the year and 0-5 in the Big 12, took a 4-1 victory in Equitation on the Flat. Winning for TCU were Jayme Omand, who won MOP honors, and Molly Peddicord, Nicole Diamantis and Kari Hancock.
Peddicord also earned MOP honors in Equitation over Fences. Carley Barnett won her match.
On the Western side, Erin Gillette claimed the lone point for TCU in Horsemanship. Chantz Stewart remained perfect on the season by winning her match.

Softball: The UT Arlington softball team tied its best start since 1993 after sweeping a doubleheader to open the Maverick Invitational on Friday.
UTA (8-0) lays just two wins from the program’s best start in history, as the Mavs were 9-0 to open the 1980 season.
The Mavericks clipped Princeton 3-2 to open the day and later took a 2-1 victory over South Dakota State.
The Mavs had 12 hits on the day, led by Sandra Mendoza’s 3-for-6 performance with three RBIs.
Britnea Barilli earned the two walks she needed to move into second on UTA’s all-time career walk list. She has 105 for her career.
Samantha Clakley gave up one earned run over seven innings against Princeton.
Against South Dakota State, three pitchers gave up 10 hits, but held the Jackrabbits to only one run.
“I was really proud of the way they competed,” UTA coach Kristie Fox said. “They were put in some difficult situations and they kept composed and battled. We were behind in the second game and they were able to stay focused.”
