TCU defensive end Devonte Fields confirmed Wednesday that he intends to transfer to Stephen F. Austin State.
“It’s true,” Fields replied in a text message shortly after his Twitter account hinted as much.
From his private Twitter account, @Yaboiphilly95, Fields tweeted: “Just wanted to say thanks to TCU for the opportunity! Anxious to start a new chapter of life at SFA!! #Stillreppinpurple! #Blessed #Newstart.”
Shortly after the message, Fields changed his Twitter bio to say “From TCU to SFA, just trying to achieve my goal in life.”
An official from Stephen F. Austin said the school had no comment on Fields' potential transfer but added that an announcement was planned for Thursday.
The preseason Big 12 defensive player of the year, Fields had been “separated” from TCU after his role in an alleged domestic assault last month. Fields met with school officials Tuesday regarding the incident and his future.
TCU coach Gary Patterson was asked earlier Wednesday at practice if he had any updates on the Fields’ situation, to which he replied, “not for me to talk about.”
Patterson did say that he spoke with Fields’ uncle and mother on Tuesday night, but did not comment on the nature of the conversation.
