UT Arlington moved to .500 for the first time this season by rallying for three runs in the eighth inning to beat Western Kentucky 5-3 at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Greg McCall’s two-run double to center field went off the wall and gave UTA a 4-3 lead. McCall scored to make it 5-3 on a sacrifice fly, and UTA (25-25, 14-11 Sun Belt Conference) completed its comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
UTA, now alone in fourth place in the Sun Belt, won for the ninth time in its past 11 games.
UTA starting pitcher Daniel Milliman left after 4 2/3 innings, having allowed eight hits by Western Kentucky (27-23, 13-12). UTA relievers Zach Hobbs and Jacob Moreland (2-2) split the final 4 2/3 innings, combining to allow one hit in that time.
Never miss a local story.
Ryan Bottger’s fifth home run of the season gave UTA an early 1-0 lead. He drove in UTA’s second run in the fifth to cut WKU’s lead to 3-2.
Bottger led off the eighth with a walk. Matt Shortall was hit by a pitch, and McCall’s double to score both followed.
The teams’ three-game series continues today with a 2 p.m. first pitch and concludes Sunday.
