Tarleton State eyes consistent finish to baseball season

The Texans are closing the regular season against the top teams in the Lone Star Conference.

Tarleton State baseball coach Bryan Conger is preaching consistency to his team as it faces its toughest games of the season.

“It is the same thing that we have been striving for all year,” Conger said. “If we are good enough to earn it we will, and if we aren’t then we won’t.”

The Texans (22-20, 12-16 Lone Star Conference) have lacked offensive consistency. They open a series at second-place West Texas A&M with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Friday and close the season against first-place Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Tarleton will look toward offensive leaders Jared Musgrove and Alvaro Moreno. Musgrove, a senior from Houston, leads the LSC with a .396 batting average. Moreno, a senior from McAllen, is second on the team with a .357 average.

“They are making good decisions at the plate,” Conger said. “They have been the most consistent at the plate and are hitting the ball well for us.”

Wesleyan baseball

Texas Wesleyan remains fifth in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball standings after losing two of three to Northwood last weekend.

The Rams (24-23, 13-11) close their regular-season schedule against third-place Wayland Baptist starting with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday before finishing at UT Arlington on Tuesday.

The conference tournament begins May 2 in Oklahoma City.

Wesleyan softball

The Texas Wesleyan softball team (24-19, 15-13 SAC) ends its campaign with a pair of road doubleheaders in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

TWU travels to second-place Oklahoma Baptist at 5 p.m. Friday and closes the season at league-leader Saint Gregory’s on Saturday.
