After hanging tough with the No. 2 team in the country all weekend, UT Arlington finally broke through with a 5-4 Easter win over Louisiana Lafayette.
The Mavericks try to ride that momentum into Tuesday’s nonconference game against Oklahoma, with the first pitch at 6 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Okla.
The Ragin’ Cajuns rallied to break eighth-inning ties for victories Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday, the Mavericks pulled one out of the hat with a four-run ninth inning to hand ULL (36-5) its first road loss of the season.
“It would have been easy to lay down after Friday and Saturday, but I thought we showed toughness in bouncing back on Sunday,” coach Darin Thomas said.
The Mavericks took the Sooners into extra innings earlier this season at Globe Life Park, but a late home run won the game for Oklahoma. The Sooners are scuffling lately, having lost six of their last eight games.
