TCU hopes its first sweep in Big 12 Conference play is the start of a long run.

It’s not just that the Horned Frogs (19-12) swept West Virginia, but how they did it, with a ninth-inning rally Friday and holding off UT Arlington earlier last week.

“I think Tuesday night and Friday night gave our guys a lot of confidence,” TCU coach Jim Schlossnagle said.

On Tuesday, UTA got back in the game with a four-run seventh, but TCU responded with five more runs to lock down the win.

“We hadn’t done much of that this year,” Schlossnagle said. “And then Friday night, we kept the game close enough to give us a chance, and we certainly got help from their bullpen with the walks but at least we were in that situation.”

It’s the kind of situational offense the team has lacked for much of its 5-4 start in the Big 12.

The Frogs will need the runs against Dallas Baptist (23-8) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Horner Ballpark.

The Patriots’ offense packs a punch. DBU has 58 doubles and 21 home runs, including five from Austin Listi, who has 23 RBIs. As a comparison, the Frogs have 40 doubles and six homers. Granted, TCU plays in pitcher-friendly Lupton Stadium.

Big 12 honors

Third baseman Derek Odell and pitcher Preston Morrison were named the Big 12’s player and pitcher of the week, respectively, after TCU went 4-0.

Odell batted .643, scored six runs and stole three bases. Morrison had seven strikeouts and allowed one hit in a complete-game win over West Virginia on Saturday.
