The Mavericks (13-17) improved to 5-5 in conference play in the series opener against ULM (12-19, 4-6). Today’s doubleheader, scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., will conclude the three-game series. Possible inclement weather moved Sunday’s game ahead to today.

UTA and ULM combined to hit six home runs, four by the end of the second inning. The Warhawks hit two in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Ryan Bottger went deep for the third time this season to pull UTA within 3-1 in the bottom of the first. Eric Tate’s second-inning solo homer cut the Warhawks’ lead to 3-2, and Shortall tied the game at 3-3, on a fielder’s choice that scored Peter Cuomo.
ULM took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning, but UTA scored three times in its half. Levi Scott’s two-run single and a run-scoring hit by Tate gave the Mavericks a 6-4 lead.
The Mavericks pushed their lead to 9-5 with three more in the fifth, including Shortall’s two-RBI single.
