TCU roughed up by Oklahoma State, drops Big 12 series

Freshman starter Tyler Alexander gives up five runs, but only two are earned.

Eight different Oklahoma State batters had a hit, and the Cowboys chased TCU starter Tyler Alexander early in a 9-4 win over the Horned Frogs on Sunday.

After scoring four runs through the first three innings, TCU (15-11, 2-4 Big 12) couldn’t get anything going against Oklahoma State reliever Vince Wheeland (1-0), who entered in the fourth and threw five innings of no-hit ball while allowing just one walk.

Jerrick Suiter tied a career high with three RBIs for the Frogs, going 2 for 3 to lead the offense.

The Cowboys (19-9, 3-3) knocked Alexander (3-3) out of the game after just two-plus innings in which they scored five runs (two earned) on seven hits off the freshman left-hander out of Southlake Carroll.

TCU committed three errors in the game that helped OSU score three unearned runs.

Ryan Sluder went 3 for 5 for the Cowboys, and leadoff hitter Gage Green went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Frogs complete their four-game road trip with a visit to UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
