Missed chances doom Frogs

Oklahoma State 2TCU baseball 1

Tim Arakawa hit a two-out RBI single to center in the bottom of the ninth to help Oklahoma State edge TCU with a 2-1 walk-off victory Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

TCU’s Alex Young picked a runner off first base to erase a one-out single, but he walked the next two batters before Arawaka drove in the winning run.

Young (1-2) had retired the first eight batters he faced in relief of starter Preston Morrison, who gave up a run on seven hits with three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

The Horned Frogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Connor Castellano lined a single to center field to score Derek Odell from second.

The Cowboys tied it in the bottom of the third after Donnie Walton drove in Craig McConaughy with a single to left-center.

TCU had plenty of opportunities to regain the lead, none better than in the eighth and ninth when the Frogs had leadoff doubles. Odell, who went 3 for 4, was stranded at third in the eighth, and Kyle Bacak was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice after Dylan Fitzgerald hit a grounder to first.

The Frogs stranded 11 runners, the ninth time this season they’ve stranded 10 or more runners.

Brendan McCurry (5-0) earned the win for Oklahoma State with a scoreless ninth.
