UT Arlington rallied from an early 4-0 deficit, taking the lead on a three-run double by Greg McCall and the Mavericks held on late to upset No. 16 Sam Houston State 7-6 Tuesday at Clay Gould Field.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Mavs (5-14, 0-3 Sun Belt).
UTA starter Keegan Hucul went two innings, giving up four runs on six hits, all in the second inning, but the Mavericks scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the second.
With two outs in the fourth, UTA load the bases for McCall, who doubled to the gap in right center. He scored on a single by Ryan Bottger to put UTA up 6-4.
Both teams added a run in the fifth and the Bearkats added a run in the top of the sixth, but reliever Zach Hobbs shut down Sam Houston from there.
