UT Arlington returns home for a pair of midweek games in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak.
The Mavericks host Sam Houston State and Columbia University at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The conference-opening weekend went as poorly as possible for the Mavericks, who were swept by rival Texas State. UTA gave up leads while losing games both Saturday and Sunday, dropping to 5-14 on the season.
The UTA pitching staff has surrendered 5.3 runs per game this season, making it tough on a team that struggles to score.
Sam Houston State, 16th in the latest Baseball America Poll, has won six of its past seven game, is 16-4 overall, and boasts six hitters with averages over .300. The Bearkats have limited opponents to three runs or fewer in 13 of their 20 games and have a staff ERA of 2.20.
The Mavericks have not won back-to-back games this season.
Columbia (5-7) lost three of four in a weekend set at UT San Antonio.
