South Alabama broke open a close game with a 7-0 run late in the second half and beat UT Arlington 78-73 in a Sun Belt Conference regular-season finale on Saturday.

Augustine Rubit had 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Jaguars (11-20, 5-13 Sun Belt).

Brandon Edwards led the Mavericks (14-16, 9-9) with 18 points. UTA will play Louisiana-Monroe in the first round of the Sun Belt tournament Thursday in New Orleans.

UTA was trailing 56-55 with 7:07 left in the game. But Rubit made a layup.

Edwards tried a 3-pointer and missed. South Alabama rebounded and Mychal Ammons made a 3-pointer. The Mavericks missed another shot, leading to a dunk by Ammons.

Jamel Outler had points for UTA, Reger Dowell 11 and Anthony Walker 10.
