TCU baseball edges Houston to wrap up Houston College Classic

Center fielder Cody Jones had his fourth multi-hit game this year and drove in the winning run on his first RBI of the season to help No. 16 TCU edge Houston 2-1 on Sunday in the final game of the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park.

Alex Young (1-0) struck out five while allowing two hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Riley Ferrell earned the save, stranding the tying run on third in the eighth inning by getting a groundout and a strikeout and then retiring the side in a perfect ninth.

With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh, Jones singled off Houston’s Jared Robinson (1-1) to score shortstop Keaton Jones from third to give the Frogs (7-4) the lead.

Keaton Jones also scored TCU’s other run in the third inning after reaching on a leadoff walk and later scoring with two outs after Houston (8-2) made a throwing error.
