After splitting a two-game road swing, the UT Arlington men’s basketball team hosts the top two Sun Belt Conference teams in the final homestand of the season at the College Park Center.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against conference leader Georgia State (20-7, 13-1 Sun Belt) and followed by a 7:30 p.m. Saturday tilt with Western Kentucky (18-9, 10-4), the Mavericks (12-14, 7-7 Sun Belt) hope to make a final statement before the conference tournament.

As frustrating as their season has been, the Mavericks still have the conference’s leading scorer in Reger Dowell. He’s the only player in the Sun Belt scoring 20 points per game and he has UTA smack in the middle of the league standings.

Dowell scored 26 in a Feb. 1 meeting with Georgia State (20-7, 13-1) in which UTA let a four-point lead with 12 seconds left evaporate into a 10-point overtime loss.

Georgia State has won 17 of its last 18 games.
