Tyler Alexander and Trey Teakell combined to allow just five hits on Sunday at Whataburger Field to help No. 19 TCU beat UTSA 5-1 in its final game of the Kleberg Bank Classic.

The victory was Jim Schlossnagle’s 500th career win in his 13th year as a head coach, 11 of which have been at TCU.

Alexander (1-1), a Southlake Carroll product, turned in a career-high six innings in his second start of the season. The freshman allowed just one run on five hits, walked one, hit a batter and struck out two for the first victory of his career. Teakell retired all nine batters he faced, including four via strikeout, to notch his first career save.

UTSA (5-2) took an early 1-0 lead on Jesse Baker’s RBI double, but the Horned Frogs blanked the Roadrunners thereafter, allowing no hits after the second inning. Following a two-out walk in the fourth inning, Alexander and Teakell combined to retire the final 16 batters they faced in the game.

TCU (6-1) wasted no time rallying back to take the lead, scoring twice in the first, twice in the second and once in the third. The Horned Frogs made it a tough day for UTSA starter Justin Anderson (1-1), who allowed five runs (four earned) in five innings. He gave up eight hits, struck out four and walked four.

Center fielder Cody Jones had two hits and a run, and left fielder Boomer White added three hits and an RBI. Catcher Kyle Bacak went 2 for 3 and had an RBI in the third.

TCU next faces UT Arlington at 6:30 Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium.
