The day after winning the longest game in school history, UT Arlington could not hold a three-run lead in Saturday’s 6-5 loss to McNeese State.
The Mavericks, up 5-2 after five innings, dropped to 1-5 on the season. McNeese State scored four unanswered runs, including one in the bottom of the ninth, to improve to 5-2.
The three-game series is tied 1-1.
UTA won 8-7 in 19 innings Friday.
The Mavericks took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. The Mavericks added runs in the second and fifth. The Cowboys tied the game with two runs in the seventh.
“We did a good job against their starter early,” UTA coach Darin Thomas said. “We need some hits with men in scoring position. We left 13 men on base.”
John Michael Twichell hit UTA’s first home run of the season, and finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Derek Miller went 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot and Brady Cox was 3-for-4. Ryan Bottger and Levi Scott also had two hits.
