Texas Wesleyan hosts table tennis team trials

Small colleges notes: The U.S. trials are coming to Fort Worth.

The Texas Wesleyan table tennis team will host the U.S. table tennis team trials March 7-9 at the Sid Richardson Center.

Team USA will select five male and five female competitors through single elimination tournaments.

“It means a lot to us to promote the university and the players,” Texas Wesleyan table tennis coach Jasna Rather said. “Our players will have the opportunity to play on their home court.”

TWU players Yahao Zhang and Razyan Cretu will compete as will former players Chance Friend and Russ Hamilton. Zhang qualified for the national team in 2013.

TexAnns upset WTAM

The Tarleton State women’s basketball team stunned No. 3 West Texas A&M 71-69 on Wednesday night.

Shanae Lowrance provided the game-winning layup with 17 seconds remaining and Kiara Wright forced a turnover on West Texas’ final possession.

Wright had a double-double with 26 points and 15 rebounds.

The TexAnns hit the road for the final two games of the season, beginning the trip at 6 p.m. Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.

Texan men seek title

Tarleton State is one win from clinching a share of the Lone Star Conference regular-season championship, holding a game advantage over Midwestern State.

The Texans face Eastern New Mexico at 8 p.m. Saturday, followed by Texas A&M Commerce on March 1.

Volleyball player signs

Fort Worth Christian middle blocker Camille Porco signed with Hill College, Hill volleyball head coach Samantha Erger said.
