Longtime TCU cornerbacks coach headed to Arkansas

Clay Jennings had been TCU’s cornerbacks coach since 2008.

TCU cornerbacks coach Clay Jennings is leaving to become the defensive backs coach at Arkansas, the school announced Thursday.

Jennings, who played at North Texas before becoming a graduate assistant for the Mean Green, had been an assistant for coach Gary Patterson since 2008. He joins former TCU linebackers coach Randy Shannon, who took the same job at Arkansas before the 2013 season.

“He was an instrumental part of a defensive unit at TCU known for giving an opposing offense a variety of looks while keeping schemes simple for their own players,” said Arkansas coach Bret Bielema in a release. Bielema’s Wisconsin team lost to Jennings and TCU in the 2011 Rose Bowl. “In addition, his knowledge of the recruiting landscape in Texas will be a great benefit to our program.”

Jennings has helped numerous TCU cornerbacks receive conference honors, including All-American Jason Verrett, who was named Co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2013.
