It’s a meeting of first and worst when the UT Arlington women’s basketball team travels to face Arkansas State on Wednesday night for a rematch of the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Though Arkansas State (16-9, 10-3 Sun Belt) comes into the matchup with a stranglehold on the top spot in the conference standings, the Red Wolves escaped the first meeting of these teams with just a 66-62 victory over UTA on January 2.
The Mavericks (3-20, 2-10) are mired at the bottom of the Sun Belt standings and were overpowered in that first meeting by ASU forward Jane Morrill who pounded in 21 points and added eight rebounds. UTA also struggled to find any consistent source of offense and eventually surrendered a late second-half lead. Guard Tahlia Pope led the Mavericks with 14 points in the loss.
The Mavs will also look to rebound from their latest two losses, which came back-to-back at the hands of Louisiana Monroe and Texas State.
Arkansas State leads the all-time series with UTA 9-5.
