UTA plays tough in defeat

Despite playing its best baseball of the weekend, UT Arlington fell 4-3 to No. 18 Oklahoma State on Sunday in the UTA Invitational at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UTA (0-3) had an early 1-0 lead on an run-scoring single by Matt Shortall in the bottom of the first inning, but the Cowboys (3-0) tied the game 1-1 in the second on Gage Green’s run-scoring single.
The Cowboys took the lead to stay with two runs in the fourth and added a run in the seventh.
Junior college transfer Jess Amedee made his first start for UTA and gave up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 6 1/3 innings.
The Mavericks next face Baylor on Tuesday night in Waco.
