UT Arlington men eye .500 Sun Belt mark

UTA men’s basketball

Despite being in the midst of a challenging first-season run as members of the Sun Belt Conference, the UT Arlington men aren’t going down without a fight.

The Mavericks inched a game closer to .500 in conference play with a big road win on Thursday, and they have a chance to get on another winning streak by hosting Texas State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at College Park Center.

Junior guard Lonnie McClanahan has been driving the Mavericks’ train the past few weeks, scoring 25.5 points per game over the last four games. He plays with a reckless abandon by constantly driving into the paint, which keeps the Mavericks in every game.

That is a double-edged sword, however; he’s turned the ball over 88 times and dished out 89 assists this season.

Meanwhile, senior forward Brandon Edwards is three rebounds away from 761 career rebounds, which would move him past Jordan Reves and into fourth place on UTA’s all-time list.
