After upsetting Iowa State, TCU women face hapless Texas Tech

Texas Tech at TCU women

The TCU women’s basketball team is back home at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Saturday after its buzzer-beating 61-60 win at No. 23 Iowa State on Wednesday.

Junior guard Donielle Breaux’s late 3-pointer sealed that win, and the Horned Frogs have a chance to start a winning streak against Texas Tech, whom they beat 65-54 on Jan. 5 in Lubbock. That win marked TCU’s first Big 12 conference win on the road.

TCU center Latricia Lovings, ranked second in the nation with four blocked shots per game, can tie former TCU star Sandora Irvin’s school record of 62 consecutive games with a blocked shot.

Lovings leads TCU’s defense, which remains one of the best in the conference. The Frogs have held seven of the 10 Big 12 opponents’ starting posts to 10 or fewer points.

Tech is 6-16 overall and winless in 11 conference games. Junior Amber Battle averages a team-high 18.2 points per game, good for fourth in the conference. Battle also pulls down 7.6 rebounds per game.

Tech leads the series 39-2, and a win Saturday would be the Horned Frogs’ first against Tech in Fort Worth in 17 tries and give coach Jeff Mittie his 299th career win.
