Offense: Tech picked up Texas AP player of the year Patrick Mahomes, who is expected to add depth at quarterback after the postseason transfers of Michael Brewer and Baker Mayfield. The Red Raiders also landed a solid recruit in Cibolo Steele running back Justin Stockton, who picked the Red Raiders over Baylor, Oklahoma and UCLA.
Defense: Irving defensive back Michael Coley provided the Red Raiders a National Signing Day surprise when he signed early on Wednesday. Coley was previously uncommitted and is one of eight defensive backs signed by the Red Raiders. Tech also added Argyle safety Connor Wilson to fill the unit’s outside linebacker slot.
Immediate impact: Cornerback Nigel Bethel could have elected to stay closer to home with offers from Miami and BCS national champion Florida State, but the four-star recruit chose Lubbock and signed with the Red Raiders.
