The UT Arlington women’s basketball team has been searching all season.
The Mavericks found their first win on their 11th try this year, and ever since, UTA has been hunting its first Sun Belt Conference victory in the school’s first season as a member of its third conference in as many seasons.
After losses on the road to Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 11 and more recently to Texas State 68-60 on Wednesday, the Mavericks (1-15, 0-5 Sun Belt) and first-year coach Krista Gerlich hope to end the drought with a victory against Troy at College Park Center on Wednesday.
The Trojans (5-12, 1-5) are led by Joanna Harden, the Sun Belt Conference player of the week and the leading scorer in the conference. Harden averages 24.8 points a game, making the guard the fourth-leading scorer in the country.
Mavericks center Desherra Nwanguma set a season high with 25 points in the loss to Texas State. The senior also pulled down 13 rebounds against the Bobcats.
UTA won the only other meeting against Troy in 2005 in Orlando, Fla.
