The UT Arlington basketball team has gotten off to a rocky start this season against a new stream of conference teams, but they can always count on Texas State to be there for them.
The Mavericks travel to San Marcos to face their longtime rival Texas State at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
UTA is coming off a 20-point loss to Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday, but they’ve gotten an added edge with the emergence of Lonnie McClanahan, a fearless point guard committed to driving into the paint.
He’s averaging 23 points per game over the past three games.
The Bobcats are led by former Stephen F. Austin coach Danny Kaspar, whose game plan is committed to slowing the pace of play and keeping the score in the 50-60-point range.
The Bobcats held Louisiana-Monroe, a team UTA beat 83-79 in overtime, to 36 points earlier this season.
