With the relief of getting its first conference win out of the way, the UT Arlington basketball team embarks on a two-game road swing over the next two weeks, beginning with a 1 p.m. Saturday tip-off at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Coming off a pair of deflating home losses to begin conference play, the Mavericks scratched out an overtime win without their leading scorer. After scoring 15 points in the final six minutes of UTA’s two-point loss on Jan. 4, Lonnie McClanahan stayed hot by scoring 25 and guiding the Mavericks to a much-needed win over UL Monroe before the road trip.
They’ll face the Ragin’ Cajuns looking for their first win in conference play after starting the season 9-4 in nonconference play. They’re powered by a one-two punch in Shawn Long and Elfrid Payton, both scoring more than 20 points per game.
Payton is coming off a triple-double in the Cajuns’ 103-98 overtime loss to UL-Monroe on Saturday.
