The UT Arlington women’s basketball team looks for its first Sun Belt Conference win of the season Wednesday night at College Park Center.
The Mavericks have knocked on victory’s door in their first two conference games, dropping close losses to Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock. UTA will try to get over the hump against Louisiana-Monroe (4-9, 0-1 Sun Belt).
UTA (1-12, 0-2) has struggled to put together a complete effort in its last two games. The Mavericks made things interesting in the second half of Saturday’s 64-57 loss to Little Rock. Trailing by 11 at halftime, UTA outscored the Trojans 41-37 as the comeback attempt fell just short.
Point guard Laila Suleiman has been solid for the Mavs recently, averaging 12.7 points and three assists in her last six games.
Senior forward Ashleigh Simmons leads the Warhawks with 15.9 points on 58 percent shooting with eight rebounds per game.
The two schools last met in 2005, when UTA defeated Monroe 58-44 in Arlington.
