GoDaddy Bowl

Arkansas State vs.

Ball State

8 p.m. Sunday, Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Ala.

TV: ESPN

Records: Arkansas State 7-5, 5-2 Sun Belt; Ball State 10-2, 7-1 MAC

Key points: For college football fans who are excited for the BCS National Championship Game on Monday, the GoDaddy Bowl should make the waiting tolerable. Despite putting up gaudy numbers and high win totals, Ball State has never won a bowl game. The Cardinals are 0-6, including a 38-17 loss to UCF in last season’s Beef ‘O’ Brady Bowl. Arkansas State is 1-2, with a 17-13 win against Kent State last year in the GoDaddy Bowl. Arkansas State will have an interim coach (defensive coordinator John Thompson) for a third consecutive year after Bryan Harsin took the head coaching job at Boise State. Thompson’s defense will try to slow down Ball State senior quarterback Keith Wenning, who has thrown for nearly 4,000 yards, to go with 36 touchdowns and only four interceptions this season. His top target is junior Willie Snead (97 catches, 1,429 yards, 14 touchdowns).

Tarrant ties: Arkansas State freshman defensive end Chris Odom played at Arlington Martin, and senior deep snapper Cade Oliver went to Mansfield Summit.
