UTA men needed mulligan after Sun Belt pratfall

UT Arlington suffered a poor debut in the Sun Belt Conference, but Saturday evening presents a second chance.

UT Arlington’s first game in the Sun Belt Conference didn’t go too well, but the Mavericks quickly get a second chance by hosting Arkansas-Little Rock at 5 p.m. Saturday at College Park Center.

The Mavericks fell to Arkansas State 82-66 Thursday night. The Mavericks trailed by 31 at one point in the second half.

UALR is coming off a 63-59 victory over Texas State behind forward Will Neighbour’s 20 points. Neighbour is the Trojans’ leading scorer, averaging 16.8 points per game. He has also shot more free throws (86 in 13 games) than anyone else in the conference.

UTA’s Reger Dowell leads the conference in scoring at 22.8 points per game. He scored 28 in UTA’s loss Thursday night, but 14 of those points came in the final two minutes with the game already out of hand.

The Mavericks are 4-2 at home. UALR is 2-5 on the road.
