The TCU women’s basketball team ends both its holiday break and its nonconference schedule Saturday night when it takes on Prairie View A&M at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The nonconference slate has been a learning process for a TCU offense that has shifted away from a strategy focused on 3-pointers to one emphasizing multiple looks depending on the lineup in the game. Through the past few games, coach Jeff Mittie said he has seen the improvement he was looking for in his team.
“I think our group has worked really hard to really improve the last three weeks, and I certainly think like we’re a better basketball team,” Mittie said after his team’s 78-46 win over Sam Houston State on Dec. 20.
A good portion of that success can be attributed to the veteran leadership of junior guard Natalie Ventress, who has hit double figures in points in four of the Frogs’ last five games.
Prairie View A&M is winless this season, allowing opponents 77 points per game while averaging just 51 of their own. The Lady Panthers are led by junior guard Jeanette Jackson, averaging 16.7 points per game.
TCU is 5-0 against the Lady Panthers. The last meeting was in 2001-02.
